Subject: | New Factory Setting for Automatic Door Lock Feature |
Models: | 2001 Chevrolet and GMC C/K Pickup and Utility Models |
The automatic door lock feature on the above listed vehicles has a new factory setting which is different from the setting used on 2000 model year vehicles.
The vehicles are built with the automatic door lock feature disengaged, which may lead to customers or dealers believing that the system is not functioning. Dealership personnel can address customer's concerns by explaining that the automatic door lock feature can be easily set to one of four settings based on the owner's preference. The procedure is explained in the Owner's Manual and in a quick reference guide that is included with most models.
This automatic door lock programming option should be explained to the customer during the delivery process and, if necessary, assistance should be provided to set the programming to the owner's preferred setting.
Dealer service personnel and customers should be aware that some early Owner's Manuals incorrectly indicate that the factory setting is preset to lock after 15 mph (24 km/h) and unlock when the key is removed, as it functioned in 2000 model year vehicles. This is incorrect and this information will be updated in future Owner's Manuals.
The automatic door locks are designed to be fully programmable by customers like other personalization features. Because of this, warranty claims should not be submitted for performing this work.
