Correction

Replace the fuel pressure regulator (limiter) using the following service procedure and the part numbers listed below.

Caution: Diesel fuel is extremely flammable. Allow the engine to cool before servicing the fuel system. Ensure that there are no open flames or any spark/heat generating equipment in the general work area. Any collected fuel must be disposed of properly.

  1. Park and secure the vehicle on a level surface.
  2. Tilt and secure the cab. Refer to Cab Tilting in the General Information subsection of the applicable Service Manual.

  3. Object Number: 736687 Size: SH

Caution: Cover the outlet (top) line banjo bolt with cloth while loosening the bolt. Fuel may be under pressure and splash while loosening the outlet (top) line banjo bolt. Use caution when handling fuel.

  4. Carefully loosen the outlet (top) line banjo bolt (2) of the fuel filter housing in order to relieve the fuel pressure.
  5. Place a drain pan under the vehicle to collect any fuel that may spill.

  6. Object Number: 770314 Size: SH
  7. Remove the fuel pipe clip bolt and clip (1), if equipped.
  8. Remove the fuel return overflow pipe bolt (3).
  9. Carefully pull the fuel return overflow pipe away from the fuel pressure regulator (limiter) (2).
  10. Loosen the fuel pressure regulator (limiter) using the integral nut and remove as an assembly. Pull the assembly away from the common rail.
  11. Important: The date code must be inspected on the fuel pressure regulator (limiter) (see charts A and B below). Only use the correct fuel pressure limiter type, or fuel leakage may occur.

  12. Install the new fuel pressure regulator (limiter) as an assembly and tighten to specifications (See chart A below).
  13. Install the fuel return overflow pipe and bolt.
  14. Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  15. Install the fuel pipe clip and bolt.
  16. Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in) while supporting the bracket with the other hand in order to prevent unnecessary force on the pipe.

  17. Bleed the fuel system using the procedure listed below.
