Some technicians may comment that they encounter difficulty when using the locking differential governor removal tool, J 26252 (Figure 1). The spacer may interfere with a shoulder on the machined surface of the differential case causing the tool to pull at an angle to the bushing.
To correct this condition, the tool has been redesigned with a 45 degree flat added to the spacer. If your spacer does not have this 45 degree flat, it may be modified by adding a flat as shown in Figure 2. This flat will allow the spacer to center over the governor bushing and pull it straight out. If it is desired, a new spacer with the 45 degree flat may be purchased by contacting Kent-Moore Tools at 1-800-345-2233 and requesting Spacer, J 26252-4.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
