RIGHT POWER DOOR LOCK DOESN'T ALWAYS UNLOCK

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1987 S/T TRUCKS

Several applications of the door lock switch may be required, to unlock the PASSENGER (right hand) door on some 1987 S/T trucks. This condition is due to the door lock motor being located too far forward in the door.

This condition can be eliminated by performing one of the following procedures:

1. Remove the door inner trim panel.

Loosen the two door lock motor attachment bolts (Reference Figure No. 1).

Rotate the door lock motor rearward at the top (Reference Figure No. 1).

Check to ensure that there is clearance between the door lock motor and window run channel.

Tighten door lock motor attachment bolts to 9 Nm (80 lb in).

Verify that interference condition is eliminated by operating door lock motor before attaching trim panel.

2. If this condition still exists, elongate the two door lock motor attaching holes in the door panel 2mm rearward as shown in Figure No. 2.

Move the door lock motor as far rearward as possible without contacting the window run channel. It is not necessary to rotate the mowtor rearwgtrd at the top with both holes

Reposition the door insulator and reinstall the door trim panel.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
