CRACK (GAP) IN POWER STEERING PULLY

SUBJECT: APPARENT "CRACK" IN POWER STEERING PUMP PULLEY (POSSIBLE MISDIAGNOSIS)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1987-89 B/F CARS, S/T/R/V/G/M/C/K TRUCKS

The presence of a gap in the grooved section of the power steering pump pulley (see Illustration), may be misdiagnosed as a crack.

The pulley is designed and manufactured with a provision for the gap to be present and has no negative effects on the accessory drive system.

A gap width of up to 1 mm should be considered normal.

A power steering pump pulley should not be replaced due to the presence of the gap.
