During normal operation of the tandem diaphragm unit, with the brake pedal released, manifold vacuum is applied to both sides of the diaphragms. Applying the brakes allows air at atmospheric pressure to enter one side of the diaphragms. This pressure difference provides the power assist.
The booster assembly is located on the left front dash panel. The master cylinder is mounted to the booster assembly.
The vacuum booster assembly is serviceable by replacement only.
Vacuum is supplied to the brake vacuum booster by a pipe on the engine intake manifold. A flexible hose connects the pipe and the vacuum booster check valve. The check valve is mounted in a grommet on the front of the brake vacuum booster.
