Removal Procedure

  1. Release the park brake.
  2. Remove the left I/P sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Controls.
  3. Loosen the front cable at the equalizer.

  4. Object Number: 112  Size: SH
  5. Remove the brake release handle.

  6. Object Number: 177269  Size: SH
  7. Remove the mounting bolts and nut.
  8. Remove the lever assembly.

  9. Object Number: 114  Size: SH
  10. Disconnect the cable from the lever.
  11. Remove the brake cable retainer from the park brake lever bracket. Press in on the retaining fingers in order to remove.
  12. Inspect the brake cable for fraying, binding or kinking.
  13. Replace frayed, bound, or kinked brake cable.

Installation Procedure

  1. Lubricate the park brake assembly. Refer to Park Brake Lubrication .

  2. Object Number: 114  Size: SH
  3. Install the front brake cable to the brake lever assembly.
  4. Install the brake cable retainer into the park brake lever bracket. Verify the brake cable retainer fingers expand when the retainer is inserted into the park brake lever bracket.

  5. Object Number: 177269  Size: SH
  6. Install the brake lever assembly.
  7. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. Install the park brake lever mounting bolts and the nut.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts and the nut to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  10. Install the brake release handle.
  11. Install the left side sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Controls.
  12. Adjust the park brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment .
