Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the seat from the vehicle. Refer to Seat Replacement .
  2. Remove the headrest from the seat back. Refer to Front Seat Head Restraint Replacement .

  4. Separate the J-strip at the base of the seat back.
  5. Separate the J-strip from the sides of the seat.

  7. Remove the seat back recliner handle, if equipped. Refer to Seat Back Recliner Handle Replacement .

  8. Object Number: 298946  Size: SH
  9. Remove the manual recliner (manual lumbar knob) lever, if equipped.
  10. Remove the seat back to seat frame bolts.
  11. Disconnect the electrical connector, if necessary.
  12. Remove the pivot bolts to the seat back and seat bottom.

  14. Separate the seat back pad from the seat back frame.
  15. Remove the two seat back recliner bolts.
  16. The bolts are located on the outboard side of the seat.

  17. Remove the plastic inserts that are attached to the seat back cardboard.
  18. Pull the seat cover over the entire seat back.

  20. Remove the heat element from the seat back, if equipped.
  21. Important: Do not damage the seat fabric when removing the velcro retaining cover.

  22. Remove the heat element wiring from the velcro.
  23. Remove the seat back cover.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the heat element wiring to the velcro, if equipped.
  2. Install the heat element to the seat back, if equipped.

  3. Object Number: 298948  Size: SH
  4. Install the plastic inserts to the seat back cardboard.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the two seat back recliner bolts on the outboard side of the seat.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the recliner assembly to seat back mounting bolts to 18 N·m (13 lb ft).

  8. Install the seat back pad to the seat back frame.
  9. Pull the seat cover over the entire seat back.
  10. Important: When placing the seat back to seat bottom, ensure that the pivot bolt goes in first.

  11. Install the pivot bolts to the seat back and the seat bottom.
  12. Tighten

        • Tighten the inboard seat back pivot bolts to 48 N·m (35 lb ft).
        • Tighten the outboard seat back pivot bolts to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).
  13. Connect the electrical connector, if necessary.
  14. Install the seat back to seat frame bolts.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the seat back to seat frame bolts to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).

  16. Install the manual recliner (manual lumbar knob) lever, if equipped.

  18. Install the seat back recliner handle, if equipped. Refer to Seat Back Recliner Handle Replacement .

  19. Object Number: 298942  Size: SH
  20. Engage the J-strips to the sides.
  21. Engage the J-strip at the base of the seat back.
  22. Install the headrest to the seat back. Refer to Front Seat Head Restraint Replacement .

  24. Install the seat to the vehicle. Refer to Seat Replacement .
