Fuel Tank Draining Pick Up
Removal Procedure
Caution: Gasoline or gasoline vapors are highly flammable. A fire could occur
if an ignition source is present. Never drain or store gasoline or diesel
fuel in an open container, due to the possibility of fire or explosion. Have
a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher nearby.
- Remove the pickup box from the vehicle. Refer to
Pickup Box Replacement
in Body Rear End.
- Remove the fuel sender assembly from the fuel tank. Refer to
Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement
.
- Use a hand operated pump device to drain the fuel from the fuel
tank.
Installation Procedure
- Install the fuel sender to the fuel tank. Refer to
Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement
.
- Install the pickup box to the vehicle. Refer to
Pickup Box Replacement
in Body Rear End.
- Refill with fresh fuel.
Fuel Tank Draining 2-Door Utility
Caution: Gasoline or gasoline vapors are highly flammable. A fire could occur
if an ignition source is present. Never drain or store gasoline or diesel
fuel in an open container, due to the possibility of fire or explosion. Have
a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher nearby.
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the negative battery cable.
- Remove the fuel filler cap.
- Disconnect the fuel fill hose from the fuel tank (4-door utility
only). Refer to
Filler Tube Replacement
.
- Use a hand operated pump device in order to remove the fuel through
the fuel filler pipe (2-door utility), or through the fuel tank fill pipe
nipple (4-door utility).
Fuel Tank Draining 4-Door Utility
Caution: Gasoline or gasoline vapors are highly flammable. A fire could occur
if an ignition source is present. Never drain or store gasoline or diesel
fuel in an open container, due to the possibility of fire or explosion. Have
a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher nearby.
Caution: Do not drain the fuel into an open container. Never store the fuel in
an open container due to the possibility of a fire or an explosion.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in Engine Electrical.
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Loosen the lower fuel
fill hose clamp (2) at the lower fuel fill tube (12).
- Disconnect the lower fuel fill hose (13) from the lower fuel fill
tube (12).
- Use a hand or air operated pump device in order to remove the
fuel through the lower fuel fill hose (13).
