Power Seat Inoperative Fore/Aft After Being Moved All the Way Rearward (Install C-Spacer)

Subject:Power Seat Inoperative Fore/Aft After Being Moved All The Way Rearward (Install C-Spacer)

Models:1998-2002 Chevrolet Blazer
1998-2002 GMC Jimmy

Condition

Some customers may comment that the power seat becomes inoperative after being moved all the way rearward.

Cause

The gear train that controls the fore/aft movement of the driver seat may lock up/bind when the seat is moved fully rearward.

Correction

Unbind the gear train and install a C-spacer on the outboard side of the power track using the following procedure.

  1. Adjust the seat so both the front and rear verticals are in the full-up position.
  2. Remove the side trim panel from the seat. Disconnect the switches from the panel so that the panel can be removed completely.
  3. Remove the panel from the front of the seat in order to gain access to the track.
  4. Loosen the inboard side (furthest away from the door) of the track to un-bind the track.
  5. Insert a flat screwdriver between the upper rail and the transmission and GENTLY force it down.
  6. Important: If the track still does not operate, place the screwdriver between the upper and lower rails and GENTLY force it towards the side. Or, place the screwdriver between the lower rail and the transmission and GENTLY force it up.

  7. Once the track is free, move the track forward until it is in the MID position.

  8. Object Number: 1544570 Size: SH
  9. Insert the C-spacer on the lead screw at the outboard side of the track (side nearest the door).
  10. Place the C-spacer over the machined portion of the lead screw (portion without the threads). The C-spacer will snap-on to the lead screw. Some effort may be required.
  11. Run the horizontal full rearward/forward several times to be sure the track does not bind and the C-spacer does not fall off.
  12. Tighten the bolt on the inboard side of the track.
  13. Reinstall the front panel.
  14. Connect the switches to the side panel and reinstall the side panel to the seat.
