GOVERNOR REMOVAL THM 700-R4 ADDITIONAL SHOP MANUAL INFO

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1983-85 T-10 Trucks Equipped with Four Wheel Drive and 700 R4 Automatic Transmission

This procedure is additional information not included in your S-10 Shop Manual, Section 7A.

1. Disconnect the negative cable at the battery.

2. Raise the vehicle.

3. Remove the propeller shaft as outlined in the propeller shaft section of the shop manual.

4. Remove the catalytic converter hanger bolts at the converter.

5. Support the transmission with a jack.

6. Remove the tranamission crossmember support from the vehicle.

7. Lower the transmission assembly to gain access to the shifter mounting bolts.

8. Disconnect the transfer case shift link rod.

9. Disconnect the transfer case shifter assembly from the transmission and move aside.

10. Remove the governor cover from the case using a screwdriver. Use extreme care not to damage the cover. If the cover is damaged, it must be replaced.

11. Remove the governor.

12. Refer to the Unit Repair Section of the shop manual for inspection procedures.

13. Apply sealant, such as Loctite Cup Plug Sealant II, or equivalent, to the cover, then install the governor cover using a brass drift around the outside flange of the cover. Do not distort cover on installation.
