Powder dust and air are being drawn into the passenger compartments of some S/T model trucks through the front doors. Vehicles driven on dusty roads can draw dust into the truck through the door louvres. This dirt then settles on the interior surfaces of the vehicle. Air can also be felt at the interior door handles and is annoying during the cold weather months.
To repair 1982-84 model S/T trucks which exhibit one or both of the conditions described above, it will be necessary to install new door lock and louvre seals. The door lock seal is held in place by the striker bolt spacers, providing a seal at the door lock. In addition the seal placed behind the door louvres will restrict both dust and air entry into the cab.
1985 trucks have redesigned door systems which incorporate a new one way pressure relief valve. This valve restricts air and road dirt entry into the cab.
1. Remove door rear garnish moulding, three screws.
2. Remove arm rest screws.
3. Remove window regulator handle, manual only.
4. Remove door trim panel, refer to Section 2D of the 'S' Truck Service Manual.
5. Remove pressure relief valve at the lower rear area of the door, Figure 1.
6. Clean the inside surface of the door inner panel at the louvred area with a suitable solvent, Isopropyl Alcohol, 50-50 mixture by volume with water, or equivalent, refer to Figure 1.
7. Remove release paper from louvre seal and apply over louvred area, gaining access through the pressure relief valve hole, Figure 1.
8. Reassemble by reversing first five steps.
1. Loosen door lock striker bolt and slide lock seal underneath striker and spacer, Figure 2.
2. Retighten striker bolt to 50-75 N.m, holding the lock seal in the proper orientation during tightening process.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
