WOOD ACCESSORIES MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR

INTERIOR THE INTERIOR WOOD ACCESSORIES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND DOOR PANELS ARE WOOD VENEERS. SINCE THEY ARE NOT EXPOSED TO THE WEATHER, THESE ACCESSORIES NEED ONLY TO BE WIPED WITH A SOFT DAMP CLOTH OR CLEANED WITH A RELIABLE BRAND OF SPRAY-ON FURNITURE POLISH. DO NOT USE ABRASIVE OR TOXIC CLEANERS. EXTERIOR THE EXTERIOR WOOD FRAMES ARE MADE OF ENGLISH ASH, SPECIALLY TREATED WITH MARINE POLYURETHANE TO RESIST MARRING AND DISCOLORATION. AS WITH ANY WOOD PRODUCT, REGULAR CARE AND PERIODIC MAINTENANCE IS NECESSARY. THEY CAN BE WASHED WITH A SOFT CLOTH AND GENTLE SOAP AND WATER. DO NOT USE ABRASIVE OR TOXIC CLEANERS. ALTHOUGH SOME YELLOWING IS NATURAL, THIS WOOD WILL RETAIN ITS ORIGINAL APPEARANCE UNDER NORMAL WEATHER CONDITIONS. WITH CONTINUED EXPOSURE TO EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS, GRAY DISCOLORATION OR PEELING MAY OCCUR. THE FRAMES MAY BE REMOVED, RESURFACED AND REPLACED BY FOLLOWING THE DIRECTIONS BELOW: 1. REMOVE THE FRAMES BY DRILLING A SMALL HOLE IN THE DECORATIVE, PLASTIC PLUG AND INSERTING A SMALL SHEET METAL SCREW. TIGHTENING THIS SCREW WILL POP THE PLUG OUT OF ITS POSITION WITHOUT DAMAGING THE WOOD. DO NOT PRY THE PLUG OUT WITH A SHARP INSTRUMENT. 2. RESURFACE THE FRAMES ON A FLAT SURFACE BY SANDING AND APPLYING SEVERAL COATS OF TWO-PART MARINE POLYURETHANE VARNISH. 3. REINSTALL THE WOOD FRAMES WITH THE ORIGINAL SCREWS AND NEW PLUGS. INSTALL NEW PLUGS AS SHOWN WITH CLEAR SILICONE SEALER. General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
