General Motors has determined that certain 1985 GMC "S/T" Light Duty Trucks equipped with a 2.8L V6 (B) engine code, automatic transmission and California emissions system were built without a Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) wiring harness.
The omission of a Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) wiring harness will not allow the torque converter clutch to engage. This can cause excessive heat build up which may result in premature transmission failure.

If wire and valve have been correctly installed, no correction is required.
If vehicle is not equipped with cruise control, inspect to determine if the transmission torque converter clutch wire, P/N 12038160, has been previously installed and connected to stop lamp switch, P/N 25504628, as shown in Figure No. 2. If wire and switch have been correctly installed, no correction is required.
If inspection reveals vehicle requires wiring harness and switch, follow the procedure identified below:

Dear GMC Truck Owner:
General Motors has determined that certain 1985 GMC "S/T" Light Duty Trucks equipped with a 2.8L V6 (B) engine code, automatic transmission and California emissions system were built without a Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) wiring harness.
The omission of a Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) wiring harness will not allow the torque converter clutch to engage. This can cause excessive heat build up which may result in premature transmission failure.
To correct this condition, when required, your dealer will install the missing Torque Converter Clutch wiring harness and associated parts on your vehicle. Please contact your GMC Truck Dealer to arrange a service date. This service will be performed at no charge to you.
Instructions for making the correction(s) have been sent to your dealer. The labor time to perform this service is approximately 20 minutes. Please allow additional time for your dealer to process your vehicle.
The enclosed Owner Reply Card identifies your vehicle. Presentation of this card to your dealer will assist in making the inspection to your vehicle in the shortest possible time. If you have sold or traded your vehicle, please let us know by completing the postage paid Owner Identification Reply Card and returning it to us so that we may update our records. Should your dealer not schedule a service date within a reasonable time, you should contact your nearest GMC Truck Zone Office either in person or by telephone for assistance. The locations and telephone numbers of the Zone Offices are listed in your Owner's Manual.
We are sorry to cause you this inconvenience; however, we have taken this action in the interest of your continued satisfaction with our products.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
