EXHAUST LEAK MANIFOLD TO PIPE COLD START ONLY/NEW PIPE SEAL

MODELS: 1984-86 S/T MODELS EQUIPPED WITH THE 2.8L V6 ENGINE

Some 1984-86 S/T Trucks equipped with the 2.8L V6 engine may exhibit an exhaust leak at the exhaust manifold to exhaust pipe attaching locations. This condition usually occurs on a start up with a cold engine, however, after the engine warms up, the leak stops. The condition most generally occurs at the right side manifold to exhaust pipe connection. A new exhaust manifold to exhaust pipe seal, P/N 25523937, and bolts, P/N 15547999, have been released to correct this condition (See Figure No. 1). The new bolts can only be used on the right side, while the new seal can be used on both sides. The torque for the bolts is 17 - 23 N.m (23 - 30 ft. lbs.). The procedure for replacing the seal and bolts can be found in Section 6F of the S15 Light Duty Service Manual.

Recommended labor time is as follows:

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
