On some early production S/T Jimmys equipped with sliding side window RPO AD5, a condition may exist where the sliding side window latch can rotate on the glass. This condition is caused by a lack of adhesion between the latch spacer (See Figure No. 1) and the glass. The service procedure for correcting this condition is as follows:
- Remove the sliding window latch cap, attaching screw, spring, handle and spacer.
- Clean the inside of the sliding window around the latch attachment point with denatured alcohol to ensure a good bond.
- Inspect the latch assembly retainer to ensure that it is bonded to the outer side of the window. If the retainer is not bonded to the window, position the retainer in the window opening with the flat surfaces on the retainer shaft PERPENDICULAR to the lower window frame. This ensures that the handle, tab will line up correctly with the notch in the window frame.
- Apply Loctite 312 or equivalent to the spacer surface that bonds to the inner side of the window (See Figure No. 1).
- Reinstall the spacer, handle, spring and screw. Torque the attaching screw to 1.5 N.m (14 in. lbs.).
- Check to ensure that the latch operates freely.
- Reinstall the latch cap.
This condition was corrected in production beginning with the following VIN breakpoints:
Pontiac G0503822 Shreveport G8508959
Pontiac G0114002 Shrevepoint G8134245
Use Labour Op C0600 (Right Side) and C0601 (Left Side) when performing this procedure.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
