I/P PRINTED CIRCUIT & GAUGE NEW DESIGN FOR 1987

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1987 S/T TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH GAUGES (RPO Z53) OR TACHOMETER (RPO U16)

The instrument panel printed circuit and attaching gauges have been redesigned for 1987 S/T trucks equipped with gauges with or without a tachometer. Smaller traces on the printed circuit bring the redesigned circuit within the boundary of the instrument cluster case rear surface, thus reducing the chances of damaging the circuit during assembly or servicing. The gauge assemblies have been revised to improve the electrical connections between the gauges and printed circuit.

Instrument clusters for 1986 and 1987 models are interchangeable in their entirety, but the printed circuits and gauges are not interchangeable between model years. A small number of early 1987 trucks may have carryover 1986 S/T instrument clusters, thus it will be necessary to check the cluster part number prior to replacing any components.

Instrument clusters without gauges did not change between 1986 and 1987 model years.

The new part numbers for 1987 models are as follows:

Description Part Number

Instrument Cluster with Gauges and 2.5L Tachometer * 2.5L Tachometer 25058628 Retainer, With Dial 25079518

Printed Circuit with Gauges 2508619.5

* The instrument cluster with gauges and 2.BL tachometer is required.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
