Some 1983-1990 2 door and 1991 4 door utility vehicles may experience a rear seat filler panel slap against the seat back during acceleration and deceleration.
This condition results from insufficient torque spring tension and may be more evident on the 4 door utility vehicle because of the increased height of the filler panel.
To repair this condition it is necessary to add an additional torque rod spring part number 14058084. The resulting tension from the two springs will prevent the filler panel from pivoting/slapping. No special installation procedures are required, as the change does not alter the normal operation or installation of the filler panel.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove outer nuts (Figure 1). 2. Untighten center nut. 3. Fold down filler panel and remove center bolt. 4. Raise filler panel. 5. Add second torque rod spring by laying on top of existing spring. 6. Lower the panel. 7. Start the center nut. 8. Raise panel and tighten center nut. 9. Install and tighten outer nuts.
Remove center torque rod bolt when the filler panel is in the down position.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition.
