Some owners of 1991-92 4 door S/T Utility vehicles may comment about an itch type noise at the top of the rear door. The "itch" may occur between the upper auxiliary weatherstrip seal and top of the door (at the header).
To correct this condition, it may be necessary to replace the rear side door upper weatherstrip assembly with a new weatherstrip assembly which is smaller in width. The smaller width seal will help eliminate the possibility of the door contacting the seal, causing an itch type sound at the top of the door.
The new design parts have been installed in vehicles built after the following VIN breakpoints:
GMC 1GKDT13W3N2526654
1. Remove the upper auxiliary weatherstrip seal by pulling it from the door (Figure 1, View A).
2. Clean the affected sheet metal surface to remove any remaining glue residue. Use either a 50-50 mixture (by volume) of water and isopropyl alcohol; or flash naphtha may be used, or equivalent (procure locally).
3. Use heat to dry the solvent on the affected sheet metal.
The sheet metal temperature should be 80 degrees F. (27 degrees C) or 10 degrees F. (6 degrees C) above the air temperature in the area, whichever is higher.
The sheet metal temperature should NOT exceed 105 degrees F. (41 degrees C).
4. Heat the weatherstrip seal to 75 to 80 degrees F. (24 to 27 degrees C) just prior to installation.
5. Immediately prior to installation, remove the protective liner on the back of the warm seal. The adhesive surface MUST be kept clean and warm.
6. Install a new WARMED weatherstrip seal (P/N 15700883-LH and 15700884-RH) (Figure 1, View A and Section B-B).
Position the weatherstrip seal to the roof panel with the tapered end of the seal to the rear.
Press firmly on the seal using 3 to 10 lbs (13 to 44 N) of force to provide proper adhesion.
7. Check for proper seal to sheet metal adhesion. If any gaps between the seal and sheet metal exist, the seal must be removed and replaced with a NEW seal following Steps 2 through 6.
8. Check the door operation to insure no interference between the seal and door exists. THE SEAL SHOULD NOT CONTACT THE DOOR SHEET METAL. If contact exists, repeat Steps 1 through 7 using a NEW seal.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition.
