SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ABOUT WIND NOISE AT THE REAR SIDE DOOR WHEN TRAVELING OVER 25 MPH (40 KPH).
THIS CONDITION CAN OCCUR FROM AIR FLOW AROUND THE STATIONARY (FIXED) WINDOW.
THE WIND NOISE CAN BE GREATLY REDUCED BY INSTALLING FOAM IN THE CHANNEL ON THE REAR OF THE STATIONARY GLASS AND ON THE DIVIDING PILLAR BETWEEN THE MOVABLE AND FIXED GLASS.
1. REMOVE THE DOOR TRIM PANEL. 2. FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE, REMOVE THE FOUR SCREWS IN THE STATIONARY GLASS INSIDE GARNISH MOLDING AND REMOVE THE MOLDING (FIGURE 1). 3. INSPECT TO DETERMINE IF A PIECE OF INSULATING FOAM (FIGURE 2, ITEM A) APPROXIMATELY 6 IN (152MM) LONG IS POSITIONED ALONG THE TOP OF THE FIXED GLASS CHANNEL. IF THE INSULATING FOAM IS PRESENT, LEAVE IT IN PLACE. ADD APPROXIMATELY 14 IN OF ADDITIONAL BLACK FOAM INSULATOR 3/4IN X 3/4IN X 14IN (19MM X 19MM X 356MM) (PROCURED LOCALLY) ALONG THE VERTICAL LENGTH OF THE CHANNEL. IF THE INSULATING FOAM IS NOT PRESENT, INSTALL APPROXIMATELY 20 IN OF INSULATOR 3/4IN X 3/4IN X 20IN (19MM X 19MM X 508MM) (PROCURED LOCALLY) ALONG THE HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL LENGTH OF THE CHANNEL. 4. INSPECT FOR THREE ADHESIVE BACKED INSULATOR PATCHES COVERING THE RECTANGULAR OPENINGS IN THE DIVIDING BAR. IF THE INSULATORS ARE PRESENT, LEAVE THEM IN PLACE. IF THE INSULATORS ARE NOT PRESENT, INSTALL INSULATOR PATCHES APPROXIMATELY 1-1/2IN X 2- 1/4IN X 1/10IN THICK (38MM X 57MM X 2.5MM) (PROCURED LOCALLY) OVER EACH OF THE THREE OPENINGS. 5. INSTALL AN ADHESIVE BACKED FOAM INSULATOR (FIGURE 3, ITEM A) APPROXIMATELY 1-1/2IN X 17IN X 0.12IN THICK (38MM X 442MM X 3MM THICK) (PROCURED LOCALLY) ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE STATIONARY GLASS INSIDE GARNISH MOLDING. 6. REINSTALL THE GARNISH MOLDING. TORQUE THE SCREWS TO 11-14 LBS IN (1.2-1.6 N M). BE SURE THE GARNISH MOLDING FITS FLUSH. IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO REMOVE THE UPPER 2 INCHES (51MM) OF THE FOAM THAT WAS JUST ATTACHED TO THE BACK OF THE STATIONARY GLASS INSIDE GARNISH MOLDING TO ACHIEVE FLUSHNESS. 7. REINSTALL THE DOOR TRIM PANEL.
