NOTICE: THIS BULLETIN DOES NOT APPLY TO ANY MANUAL TRANSMISSION EQUIPPED VEHICLE OR ANY 94 MODEL PICKUP.

WHEN SERVICING ONE OF THE LISTED VEHICLES FOR ANY REPAIR THAT REQUIRES THE REMOVAL OF THE TRANSFER CASE BRACE ROD (FIGURE 1, ITEM 1), IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO REINSTALL THE ROD FOLLOWING COMPLETION OF THE REPAIRS. THE ORIGINAL BOLT THAT ATTACHED THE ROD TO THE ENGINE (FIGURE 2, ITEM 2) SHOULD BE REPLACED WITH A SHORTER BOLT, P/N 9421037. IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO REPLACE THE BOLT THAT ATTACHED THE ROD TO THE TRANSFER CASE (FIGURE 1, ITEM 3).

REMOVING THE BRACE ROD ELIMINATES THE POSSIBILITY OF INDUCING A SIDE LOAD ON THE ALUMINUM TRANSMISSION CASE DUE TO DIFFERING THERMAL EXPANSION RATES WITH THE STEEL BRACE.

IMPORTANT: ALWAYS ADJUST SHIFT LINKAGE PER GM CORPORATE #467102 FOLLOWING ANY TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY REMOVAL.
