DURING TRANSPORTATION FROM THE ASSEMBLY PLANT, ENGINE COOLANT MAY LEAK FROM THE ENGINE COOLANT RESERVOIR OVERFLOW HOSE.
TRUCK MOVEMENT AND SHAKING DURING TRANSPORTATION FROM THE ASSEMBLY PLANT TO THE DEALER, MAY FORCE ENGINE COOLANT OUT THROUGH THE ENGINE COOLANT RESERVOIR OVERFLOW HOSE.
BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 17, 1993 THE LINDEN, NEW JERSEY AND SHREVEPORT, LOUISIANA ASSEMBLY PLANTS REPOSITIONED THE ENGINE COOLANT RESERVOIR OVERFLOW HOSE IN A VERTICAL POSITION. THIS IS A TEMPORARY MODIFICATION UNTIL AN ENGINEERING CHANGE IS DEVELOPED. WHEN THE TRUCK IS RECEIVED AT THE DEALER, IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT THIS HOSE (FIGURE 1, ITEM 1) IS MOVED TO ITS PRODUCTION INTENT POSITION PER TAG ATTACHED TO THE OVERFLOW HOSE. THE REPOSITIONING IS NECESSARY TO AVOID A POTENTIAL INCIDENT THAT COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR VEHICLE DAMAGE SHOULD THE ENGINE OVERHEAT.
THE FOLLOWING IS THE PROCEDURE TO CORRECTLY REPOSITION THE OVERFLOW HOSE. THIS PROCEDURE IS ALSO LISTED ON THE TAG ATTACHED TO THE OVERFLOW HOSE.
1. REPOSITION THE HOSE OUTLET DOWNWARD, ON THE ENGINE SIDE OF THE FRAME RAIL, IN FRONT OF THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE (FIGURE 1, ITEM 2) AND REARWARD OF THE LOWER RADIATOR HOSE (FIGURE 1, ITEM 3.)
2. TIE WRAP THE HOSE TO THE BATTERY CABLES AT THE REAR CORNER OF THE BATTERY TRAY (FIGURE 1, ITEM 4).
TRUCKS SHIPPED AFTER SEPTEMBER 17, 1993 HAVE THE HOSE POSITIONED VERTICALLY BY THE ASSEMBLY PLANTS.
AS SOON AS THE ENGINEERING CHANGE HAS BEEN DEVELOPED, A SERVICE BULLETIN WILL BE PUBLISHED DESCRIBING THIS CHANGE.
