J 35468 Seal Centering Tool

    Notice: The correct tool must be used in order to align the engine front cover. This will ensure that the engine front cover seal will be centered around the crankshaft. The seal must be centered around the crankshaft in order to prevent damage during hub installation.

  1. Install the crankshaft front oil seal.
  2. 1.1. Lubricate the seal lips with the engine oil.
    1.2. Use the J 35468 in order to install the seal to the cover.

  4. Object Number: 3694  Size: SH
  5. Apply a 10 mm (3/8 in) wide, by 5 mm (3/16 in) thick, bead of RTV to the oil pan. Apply the RTV where the oil pan and the engine front cover meet.

  6. Object Number: 9947  Size: SH
  7. Apply a 6 mm (¼ in) wide, by 3 mm (1/8 in) thick, bead of RTV to the engine front cover. Apply the RTV where the engine front cover and the engine block meet.

  8. Object Number: 9946  Size: SH
  9. Install the engine front cover to the engine block. The J 35468 tool should still be in place.
  10. Install the engine front cover bolts.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the engine front cover bolts to 11 N·m (97 lb in). Refer to

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  12. Remove the J 35468 from the engine front cover.
  13. Install the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Installation.
  14. Install the crankshaft pulley hub. Refer to Crankshaft Pulley Hub Installation.
  15. Install the crankshaft pulley. Refer to Crankshaft Pulley Installation.
