Subject:Driver Information Center (DIC) Stays in Bulb Check

Models:.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms in the PI.

Condition/Concern:

Driver Information Center (DIC) stays in the "bulb check" mode. This normally occurs after the DIC has been replaced. The replacement DIC may have been shipped from the supplier in the "burn in mode."

Recommendation/Instructions:

To correct this condition, perform the following steps:

  1. Make sure the headlamps and Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs) are OFF. This can be accomplished by applying the parking brake on 97-99 models OR using the dome override feature on 2000 and newer models. See below for the dome override procedure. If the procedure below does not work on 2000 and newer vehicles, attempt the park brake method used on 97-99 models.
  2. With the headlamps and DRLs OFF, cycle the ignition. This will take the DIC out of the bulb check mode and allow it to operate normally.

.

DOME OVERRIDE PROCEDURE:

To disable the DRLs and auto headlamps on 2000 and newer models:

  1. Turn the ignition to run.
  2. Press the dome override button 4 times within 6 seconds. After the fourth press of the button, a chime will sound informing you the system is OFF. The system will revert back to the automatic mode when the ignition is turned OFF, then ON again.

.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance.
