The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Customer may comment that the vehicle stays locked in 4 wheel drive even after shifted out and will not disengage until the vehicle is brought to a stop or driven in reverse.
For test purposes swap a set of wheels/tires from a vehicle that does not exhibit the concern and make sure the tire pressure is the same in all 4 tires. If the concern is eliminated or reduced greatly no transfer case or axle repairs will be required.
Worn tires can cause a difference in ratio that can result in binding of the 4 wheel drive components. If the customers concern is eliminated or greatly reduced by swapping tires then a tire circumference concern exists must be addressed by tire replacement.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
