Removal Procedure

J 39232 Wiper Transmission Separator

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the wiper arm and blade assemblies. Refer to Windshield Wiper Arm Replacement .
  3. Remove the air inlet grille panel and screen. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement in Body Front End.

  5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the wiper motor assembly.

  6. Object Number: 9677  Size: SH
  7. Using the J 39232 , disconnect the transmission from the wiper motor drive link.

  8. Object Number: 8542  Size: SH
  9. Remove the wiper motor assembly from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the wiper motor assembly into the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Secure the wiper motor assembly with 3 screws.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 7 N·m (62 lb in).

  5. Lubricate the inside of the drive link socket with white lithium grease, GM P/N 9985885 or equivalent.

    Important: Assemble the wiper transmission assembly to the crank arm past the second detent. Compress the seal to a maximum height of 25 mm (1 inch).

  7. Using the J 39529 , install the drive link socket onto the crank arm of the wiper motor assembly.

  9. Connect the electrical connector to the wiper motor assembly.
  10. Install the air inlet grille panel and screen. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement in Body Front End.
  11. Install the wiper arm and blade assemblies. Refer to Windshield Wiper Arm Replacement .

  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
