Removal Procedure

J 39232 Wiper Transmission Separator

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the wiper arm assemblies. Refer to Windshield Wiper Arm Replacement .
  3. Remove the air inlet grille panel. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement in Body Front End.

  4. Object Number: 8571  Size: SH
  5. Remove the screws retaining the transmission to the vehicle.

  6. Object Number: 9677  Size: SH
  7. Using the J 39232 , unseat the transmission assembly from the wiper motor crank arm.
  8. Remove the transmission assembly through the access openings in the top of the cowl.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the transmission assembly to the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the screws that retain the transmission assembly to the vehicle.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 14 N·m (10 lb ft).

  5. Lubricate the inside of the crank arm socket with white lithium grease, GM P/N 9985885 or equivalent.

  6. Object Number: 8537  Size: SH

    Important: Assemble the transmission assembly to the crank arm past the second detent. Compress the seal to a maximum height of 25 mm (1 inch).

  7. Using the J 39529 , install the transmission drive link to the wiper motor crank arm.
  8. Install the cowl vent grille. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement in Body Front End.
  9. Install the wiper arm assemblies. Refer to Windshield Wiper Arm Replacement .
  10. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application.   11. Connect the negative battery cable.
