4

Inspect the vehicle trim height. Refer to Trim Height Inspection .

Is the vehicle trim height correct?

Go to step 5

Go to Front Coil Springs Replacement in Front Suspension

5

Push down and lift up the LF corner of the vehicle.

Push down and lift up the RF corner of the vehicle with the same amount of effort.

Does the LF corner of the vehicle stop bouncing in the same amount of time as the RF corner of the vehicle?

Go to step 6

Go to Shock Absorber Replacement or Shock Absorber Replacement in Front Suspension

Push down and lift up the RR corner of the vehicle with the same amount of effort.

Does the LR corner of the vehicle stop bouncing in the same amount of time as the RR corner of the vehicle?

Go to step 7

Go to Shock Absorber Replacement in Rear Suspension

7

While pushing down and lifting up each corner of the vehicle, observe the resistance on the compression stroke and the resistance on the rebound stroke of the strut or shock absorber.

Is the resistance on the rebound stroke greater than the resistance on the compression stroke of the strut or shock absorber?

Go to step 8

Go to Shock Absorber Replacement in Front Suspension or Shock Absorber Replacement in Rear Suspension

8

Inspect each strut or shock absorber. Look for any indication of fluid leaking from the strut or shock absorber. A light film of oil on the top portion of the reservoir is normal.

Is the outside surface of the strut or shock absorber free of an indication of excessive fluid leaking from the strut or shock absorber?

Go to step 9

Go to Shock Absorber Replacement in Front Suspension or Shock Absorber Replacement in Rear Suspension

9

Test the strut or shock absorber on a similar model with properly functioning struts or shock absorbers. Ensure the suspension RPO code on the similar model is the same as on the customer's vehicle. Test each strut or shock absorber by pushing down and lifting up each corner of the vehicle. Use the same amount of effort for each corner of the vehicle.

Is the resistance of each strut or shock absorber on the similar model the same as the resistance of the strut or shock absorber on the same corner of the customer's vehicle?

Go to step 10

Go to Shock Absorber Replacement in Front Suspension or Shock Absorber Replacement in Rear Suspension

10

  1. Road test the similar model.
  2. Road test the customer's vehicle.
