Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Important: Do not use steel bolts to secure the encoder/motor to the transfer case.
Any encoder/motor bolts that are worn or broken must be replaced with the correct G/M replacement bolts. A steel bolt will cause accelerated corrosion that will destroy the integrity of the magnesium case.Tighten
Tighten the motor/encoder bolts to 37 N·m (27 lb ft).
• | Remove all gasket material remaining from the motor/encoder. |
• | Ensure the motor/encoder aligns properly with the transfer case interior shifting components. |
• | Align the motor/encoder mating surface detent with the transfer case mating surface detent. |
