Stop Lamps Inoperative Pickup

Important: The high mount stoplamp and the rear stop lamps share a common power supply that is the most probable cause for a complete system failure. This test is designed for a complete stop lamp failure. For any other symptoms, refer to Exterior Lights System Check .

Inspect the STOP LP fuse in the underhood fuse block.

Is the STOP LP fuse open?

--

Go to Step 6

  1. Disconnect the TCC/stoplamp switch.
  2. Connect a J 36169-A fused jumper wire between the TCC/stoplamp switch connector terminal A and terminal B.

Do the stop lamps light?

--

Go to Step 5

Locate and repair the open in circuit in CKT  1540 (ORN) or CKT  17 (WHT).

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Exterior Lights System Check

Adjust or replace the TCC/stoplamp switch. Refer to Stop Lamp Switch Replacement in Hydraulic Brakes.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Exterior Lights System Check

  1. Disconnect the TCC/stoplamp switch.
  2. Remove the high mount stop lamp relay from the underhood fuse block.
  3. Connect a J 39200 digital multimeter (DMM) between the TCC/stoplamp switch connector terminal B and ground.

Does continuity exist?

 

Go to Step 7

  1. Locate and repair the short to ground in CKT 1540 (ORN).
  2. Replace the STOP LP fuse.

Is the repair complete?

 

Go to Exterior Lights System Check

Connect a J 39200 DMM between the TCC/stoplamp switch connector terminal A and ground.

Does continuity exist?

 

Go to Step 9

Go to Step 10

  1. Locate and repair the short to ground in CKT 17 (WHT).
  2. Replace the STOP LP fuse.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Disconnect C211 at the turn signal switch.
  2. Connect a J 39200 DMM between the high mount stoplamp relay cavity 3 and ground.

Does continuity exist?

--

Go to Step 11

Inspect CKT 895 (YEL) for a short to ground.

Is a short present in CKT 895 (YEL)?

 

Go to Step 13

Replace the underhood fuse block.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Locate and repair a short to ground in CKT 895 (YEL).
  2. Replace the STOP LP fuse.

Is the repair complete?

Connect a J 39200 DMM between harness connector C211 cavity E6 and ground.

Does continuity exist?

Locate and repair the short to ground in CKT 1419 (DK GRN/WHT).

Is the repair complete?

Connect a J 39200 DMM between harness connector C211 cavity E7 and ground.

Does continuity exist?

Locate and repair the short to ground in CKT 1418 (YEL/BLK).

Replace the multifunction switch. Refer to Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Standard.

  2. Connect a fused jumper wire between the TCC/stoplamp switch connector terminal A and terminal B.

  1. Disconnect the TCC/stoplamp switch.
  2. Disconnect C211 at the turn signal switch.
  3. Connect a J 39200 digital multimeter (DMM) between the TCC/stoplamp switch connector terminal B and ground.

Does continuity exist?

  1. Locate and repair the short to ground in CKT 1540 (ORN).
  2. Replace the STOP LP fuse.

Is the repair complete?

Connect a J 39200 DMM between the TCC/stoplamp switch connector terminal A and ground.

Does continuity exist?

  1. Locate and repair the short to ground in CKT 17 (WHT).
  2. Replace the STOP LP fuse.

Locate and repair the short to ground in CKT 1419 (DK GRN/WHT).
