Driver Information System Check w/ Trip Computer

Condition

Action

The self diagnostics routine is necessary.

Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Driver Information Systems .

The DIC display is inoperative.

Refer to Driver Information Center (DIC) Display Blank, Mode Indicator Changes with Mode Button .

The temperature display reads SC at all times.

Refer to Driver Information Center (DIC) Temperature Display Always Reads SC .

The temperature display reads OC at all times.

Refer to Driver Information Center (DIC) Temperature Display Always Reads OC .

The temperature display shows one value at all times.

Refer to Driver Information Center (DIC) Temperature Display Always Reads One Value .

The temperature display is inaccurate.

Refer to Driver Information Center (DIC) Temperature Display Inaccurate .

The compass displays CAL at all times.

Calibrate the compass. Refer to Electronic Compass Operation

The compass display is inoperative or inaccurate, or C appears in the display. The temperature display operates normally.

  1. Initiate the self-calibration function or set the variance. Refer to Electronic Compass Operation
  2. If the compass display remains inoperative or inaccurate, replace the DIC. Refer to Driver Information Center Module Replacement

The DIC displays dashes in the digits section of the display.

The trip computer normally shows dashes when the ignition switch is in the ACC position. Full messages from the Class 2 bus are not being transmitted in this mode. If vehicle communications are lost, no information will be displayed.

  1. Test for Class 2 Lost Communication DTCs. Refer to Data Link Connectors System Check.
  2. If no codes are stored, test for an open or a poor connection in CKT 1127/1132 between the DIC and the data link connector.
  3. If the display still shows dashes, replace the DIC. Refer to Driver Information Center Module Replacement

The compass heading is blank.

  1. Excessive magnetism in or near the vehicle may cause the compass display to turn blank. Drive the vehicle to an area that is free from large metal objects in order to distinguish between vehicle magnetics and surrounding magnetics.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position and then to the ON position in order to reset the compass.
  3. If the compass display turns blank within 20 seconds after the reset of power, the vehicle magnetism is too high. Degauss the vehicle. Refer to Electronic Compass Operation

The compass heading varies with the sunroof position.

Demagnetize the sunroof assembly. Refer to Electronic Compass Operation

The compass does not calibrate or does not display all of the headings.

  1. Test for DTCs. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Driver Information Systems .
  2. If the system check is OK, manually decalibrate the compass. Refer tounroof assembly. Refer to Electronic Compass Operation

The compass displays a constant error in the heading, or the compass heading is not accurate.

A faulty variation zone heading may cause the compass to be inaccurate for the geographic region of the country. Variation is the difference between Magnetic North and True North due to geographical location. To enter a new magnetic variation zone, refer to Electronic Compass Operation

The compass display is inoperative or inaccurate, or C appears in the display. The temperature display operates correctly.

  1. Initiate the self-calibration function or set the variance. Refer to Electronic Compass Operation
  2. If the compass display remains inoperative or inaccurate, replace the DIC. Refer to Driver Information Center Module Replacement

The DIC always displays E.

  1. Test for powertrain diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Refer to Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check or Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check
  2. If the system check is OK, test for an open or a poor connection in CKT 817 and between the DIC and the vehicle control module (VCM).

The compass heading is blank.

  1. Excessive magnetism in or near the vehicle may cause the compass display to turn blank. Drive the vehicle to an area that is free from large metal objects in order to distinguish between vehicle magnetics and surrounding magnetics.

In order to enter a new magnetic variation zone, refer to Electronic Compass Operation

The display brightness does not vary with IP dimmer adjustment.

Test for an open or a poor connection in CKT 1220 between the following components:

    • The DIC
    • The headlamp
    • The IP lamp dimmer switch
