Does the charge indicator operate normally?

Using the scan tool, inspect for any DTCs.

Are any DTCs present?

Go to the Appropriate DTC

Go to Step 4

  1. Using the scan tool, perform the IPC Indicator Bulb Check.
  2. Turn the indicator bulbs ON and OFF.

Do all of the indicator bulbs turn ON and OFF properly?

Go to Step 5

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Instrument Cluster in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console

Disconnect the generator connector.

Is the battery indicator still ON?

Go to Step 6

  1. Perform the appropriate procedure:
  2. • Disconnect connector C1 from the PCM.
    • Disconnect connector C3 from the VCM.
  3. Disconnect the connector from the generator.
  4. Using a J 39200 digital multimeter (DMM), test for continuity from pin B to ground.

Is continuity present?

Repair the short to ground Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 11

Using the J 39200 DMM, measure the voltage at the battery stud on the generator.

Is the voltage within the specified range?

9-16 V

Go to Step 9

Go to Step 10

Repair or replace the generator Refer to Generator Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

Repair the open in CKT 2 (RED) Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?
