Blower Motor Resistor Replacement RPO C42

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 281489  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the electrical connector (3).
  2. Remove the blower motor resistor mounting screws (1).
  3. Remove the blower motor resistor (2) from the blower case.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 281489  Size: SH
  1. Install the blower motor resistor (2) to the blower case.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the blower motor resistor mounting screws (1).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 1.9 N·m (17 lb in).

  5. Connect the electrical connector (3).
  6. Perform the heater function test. Refer to Function Test .

Blower Motor Resistor Replacement RPO C60

Notice: Do not allow the metal coils of the blower resistor to become grounded to any metal surface. This may result in internal circuitry damage.

  1. Remove the A/C control relay bracket with the relay.
  2. Remove the blower motor resistor harness.
  3. Remove the stud from the dash panel, if necessary.
  4. Remove the blower motor resistor mounting screw.

  6. Utility only -- Cut the access cover (1) from the case.
  7. Cut all four sides of the cover in order to remove the three attaching screws. Use a sharp utility knife in order to cut the case. Make the cuts straight and clean because you must reinstall the access cover and the access cover must be visible to the customer.

  8. Remove the blower motor resistor.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the blower motor resistor.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the blower motor resistor mounting screw.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 1.9 N·m (17 lb in).

  5. Utility only -- Apply a bead of black weather-strip adhesive over the cut-line areas (1).
  6. Utility only -- Allow the adhesive to set for 15 minutes, or until the adhesive skins over.
  7. Install the stud to the dash panel, if necessary.
  8. Install the resistor harness.
  9. Install the A/C relay bracket into the body.
