Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
- Remove the oil pan drain plug and drain the engine oil into a suitable container.
- For 2WD vehicles, remove the oil filter from the oil filter adapter.
- For 4WD vehicles, open the access panel in the steering linkage shield.
- Remove the oil filter from the remote oil filter adapter.
- Inspect to ensure the engine oil filter gasket is removed.
Installation Procedure
- Lubricate the oil filter gasket with clean engine oil.
- For a RWD vehicle, install the oil filter to the oil filter adapter.
- For 4WD vehicles, install the oil filter to the remote oil filter adapter.
- Tighten the oil filter following the instructions on the filter.
- Install the oil pan drain plug into the oil pan.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Fill the crankcase with the proper capacity and quality of engine oil. Refer to Approximate Fluid Capacities in Maintenance and Lubrication.
- Operate the engine and check for leaks and oil pressure.
- For a 4WD vehicles, close the access panel in the steering linkage shield.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
Tighten
Tighten the oil pan drain plug to 25 N·m
(18 lb ft).
