Removal Procedure

Important: The following service procedure is for vehicle equipped with AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS ONLY. Vehicle equipped with manual transmissions are NOT equipped with a transfer case adapters.

  1. Remove the transfer case assembly. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement .
  2. Using a suitable jack stand, support the transmission assembly.

  3. Object Number: 652614  Size: SH
  4. Remove the transfer case adapter mounting bolts.
  5. Remove the transfer case adapter.
  6. Remove the transfer case adapter seal.

  7. Object Number: 654219  Size: SH
  8. Remove the transfer case gasket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 652614  Size: SH

    Important: Do not reuse the old gasket if it is damaged, replaced it. Do not use any type of sealer in place of the gasket.

  1. Install the new transfer case adapter seal.
  2. Install the transfer adapter.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the transfer case adapter mounting bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the transfer case adapter mounting bolts to 550 N·m (40 lb ft).

  6. Install a new gasket the transfer case gasket.

  7. Object Number: 648037  Size: SH
  8. Install the transfer case assembly. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement .
