J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the PCM. Refer to Powertrain Control Module Replacement in Engine Controls - 4.3 L.
  3. Remove the engine coolant reservoir. Refer to Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  4. Important: The nuts (4) and ferrules (3) will remain on the evaporator tube. Do not try to remove.

  5. Remove the nuts (4) from the A/C refrigerant filter (1).

  6. Object Number: 718864  Size: SH
  7. Remove the A/C refrigerant filter (1) from the evaporator tube.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 718864  Size: SH
  1. Coat the new O-rings (2) with 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.
  2. Install the new O-rings (2) to the evaporator tube.
  3. Install the A/C refrigerant filter (1) to the evaporator tube with the flow arrow pointing towards the evaporator.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the nuts (4) to the A/C refrigerant filter (1).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  7. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  8. Leak test the fittings component using the J 39400-A .
  9. Install the engine coolant reservoir. Refer to Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  10. Install the PCM. Refer to Powertrain Control Module Replacement in Engine Controls - 4.3 L.
