2	Verify that the compass is inaccurate or that CAL or C is displayed. Does the system operate normally?	Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems	Go to Step 3
3	Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF. Is the compass display blank?	Go to Step 7	Go to Step 4
4	Is CAL or C displayed?	Go to Step 5	Go to Step 6
5	Perform the compass calibration procedure. Refer to Electronic Compass Calibration . Does the compass operate properly?	Go to Step 13	Go to Step 6
6	Perform the compass variance procedure. Refer to Electronic Compass Calibration . Does the compass operate properly?	Go to Step 13	Go to Step 7
7	Turn OFF the ignition. Depress the ON/OFF or MODE button and the US/METRIC button while simultaneously turning the ignition from OFF to ON. The DIC will perform a display test and then will display a compass code. Does the DIC display E1?	Go to Step 9	Go to Step 8
8	Does the DIC display E2 or E3?	Go to Step 11	Go to Step 12
9	Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the compass sensor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems. Did you find and correct the condition?	Go to Step 13	Go to Step 10
10	Repair the open in either of the compass North/South or East/West signal circuits. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems. Did you complete the repair?	Go to Step 13	--
11	Important: Perform the compass calibration and variance procedure on the replacement DIC. Replace the compass sensor. Refer to Electronic Compass Module Replacement . Did you complete the replacement.	Go to Step 13	--
