Did you perform the Lighting Systems Diagnostic System Check?

Verify that the high beam indicator is inoperative.

Does the high beam indicator operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  2. Turn the headlamp switch to the HEAD position.
  3. Use the multifunction headlamp dimmer switch to apply the high beams.

Do the headlamps function properly?

Go to Step 4

Using a scan tool, select IPC, Special Functions, and command the high beam indicator Lamp ON, then OFF.

Does the lamp turn ON and OFF when commanded?

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 5

  1. Inspect for a defective high beam indicator bulb or socket. Refer to Instrument Cluster Bulb Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  2. If the bulb and socket is good, replace the IPC. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 7

Repair the open or high resistance in the headlamp dimmer switch high beam signal circuit or the headlamp high beam relay control circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is repair complete?

Go to Step 7

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
