Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the transmission.
  2. • Refer to Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission - 4L60-E.
    • Refer to Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission - NV 3500.
  3. Remove the clutch assembly, if equipped. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement in Clutch.

  4. Object Number: 188129  Size: SH
  5. Remove the engine flywheel bolts.
  6. Remove the engine flywheel (automatic transmission) (1), if applicable.
  7. Remove the engine flywheel (manual transmission) (2), if applicable.

  8. Object Number: 64126  Size: SH

    Important: If replacing the engine flywheel (manual transmission), then NEW flywheel weights must be installed into the NEW engine flywheel in the same location as the old flywheel weights in the old engine flywheel.

  9. Note the position of any flywheel weights for assembly (if applicable).
  10. Clean and inspect all parts. Refer to Engine Flywheel Cleaning and Inspection .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 64126  Size: SH

    Important: If replacing the engine flywheel (manual transmission), note the position and length of the original flywheel weights (if applicable). Flywheel weights of the same length must be installed into the new engine flywheel in the same location as the old flywheel weights were in the old engine flywheel.

  1. Note the position of the flywheel weights and install the NEW flywheel weights as required.
  2. A properly installed flywheel weight will be flush or slightly below flush with the face of the engine flywheel.

  3. Install the engine flywheel (1 or 2) to the crankshaft.
  4. Align the engine flywheel locator hole to the flywheel locator pin.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the engine flywheel bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the engine flywheel bolts in sequence to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).

  7. Install the clutch assembly, if equipped. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement in Clutch.
  8. Install the transmission.
