Beginning early in 1982 model year, the THM 200C transmission shaft, which is welded to the forward clutch housing assembly, was redesigned to accommodate a 245 mm diameter converter assembly.
When servicing any THM 200C transmission, that necessitates replacing the forward clutch housing assembly, use forward clutch housing P/N 8633948.
The forward clutch housing turbine shaft must have an "O" ring (Part No. 8636033) installed directly below the spline (Figure No. 1), along with two teflon oil seal rings located near the rear housing end of the shaft. (Figure No. 1 - Part No. 8628090). Refer to the Service Manual for proper installation of these rings.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
