General Motors has determined that some 1982 S-15 Light Duty Trucks equipped with 2.8L V6 engine, 5-speed manual transmission and Federal emissions have an incorrect Vehicle Emission Control Information Label.
The information identifies the vehicle as having an initial engine timing setting of 6 DEG BTDC instead of 8 DEG as established for this engine and transmission combination.
To correct this condition, a new emission control information label containing the correct initial engine timing setting of 80 BTDC will be installed on all involved vehicles.

DEALER CAMPAIGN RESPONSIBILITY
Dealers are to install the correct Vehicle Emission Control Information Label on vehicles involved as described in the Service Procedure section of this bulletin.
Each dealer will receive a correct label for all trucks listed on the print-out, without an owner name and address (owner of record). Those trucks showing a dealer name or no name and address are the dealer's responsibility to correct. Additional labels may be obtained from your zone office.
Since the label can easily be installed it is being mailed directly to owners of record. Owners may install the label personally or request that it be installed by your dealership. Should this occur the label is to be installed at no charge to the owner regardless of time, mileage, or ownership.
Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is taken into your new or used vehicle inventory or is in your dealership for service in the future, you should take the steps necessary to be sure the campaign correction has been made before reselling the vehicle.
On vehicles involved in this campaign that have been recently sold to a retail owner, where no owner's name and address were available to GMC Truck & Coach Division at the time of campaign initiation, the dealer will determine the owner's name and address from the dealership sales records. Please provide this information directly on the second copy of the listing next to the applicable VIN, so that our records may be updated and the appropriate notification mailed to the owner. This second copy should then be submitted to the address listed below in the previously supplied yellow campaign envelopes.

ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURE
Procedures covering this campaign are outlined in Section V of your dealership's "GMC Truck Claims Processing Manual" issued October, 1981.
Dear GMC Truck Owner:
General Motors has determined that some 1982 S-15 Light Duty Trucks equipped with 2.SL V6 engine, 5-speed manual transmission and Federal emissions system have an incorrect Vehicle Emission Control Information Label.
The misprinted label contains an incorrect setting for the engine timing and therefore, replacement is required per provisions of the Federal Clean Air Act.
We have enclosed the correct Vehicle Emission Control Information Label for your vehicle. You. may install this label yourself or take it to a GMC dealer for installation at no charge to you.
To install the Vehicle Emission Control Label yourself, instructions are as follows:
1. Open hood of vehicle and locate the old emission label. This label is located on a panel just above the radiator assembly on all models.
2. Clean the surface of the old label with soapy water and wipe dry.
3. Remove backing from new label and carefully apply label over old label.
If you install the new label, rather than asking your dealer to do it, please tell us by signing and returning the postage paid pre-addressed reply card. If you have sold, traded or disposed of your vehicle, please fill out the information requested on the reply card and return it to us. This will assist us in assuring that all affected vehicles have been corrected and also will eliminate the necessity for bothering you with follow-up notifications.
Should you choose to have a GMC Truck dealer install the label please contact your dealer to arrange a mutually satisfactory service date to have this modification performed. Take the enclosed label with you. The labor time to perform this correction is approximately 5 minutes. Please allow additional time for the dealer to process your vehicle.
We are sorry to cause you this inconvenience; however, we have taken this action in the interest of your continued satisfaction with our products.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
