THIS BULLETIN CANCELS AND REPLACES GMC TRUCK SERVICE BULLETIN 92-10-73, DATED APRIL 1992 TO CORRECT THE REFERENCE BULLETIN NUMBER IN THE SECOND PARAGRAPH. ALL COPIES OF 92-10-73 SHOULD BE DESTROYED
It may be necessary to refinish the lower body molding (cladding) on 1991-92 Syclone/Typhoon/Sonoma GT model vehicles due to various types of damage.
If refinish is required due to discoloration or fading of the black molding, refer to GMC Truck Service Bulletin 92-10-41, dated January 1992 for the repair procedure.
If refinish is necessary due to damage, use the following procedure.
1. Depending on the severity of damage, it may or may not be necessary to remove the molding from the vehicle. If removal is required, follow the removal instructions stated in the appropriate Service Manual, Section 2B "Sheet Metal".
2. Wash each damaged part with soap and water.
3. Solvent wipe with DX-330 Grease and Wax Remover or equivalent.
4. Repair damaged area and featheredge surrounding area with 240-320 grit sandpaper.
5. For grey molding: Apply one (1) wet coat of DP Epoxy Primer or equivalent to the bare substrate/part.
For black molding: Apply one (1) wet coat of DP-90 Epoxy Primer or equivalent to the bare substrate/part.
If additional filling is required, apply two (2) coats of K-36 Acrylic Urethane Primer Surfacer or equivalent. Finish sand the K-36 with 400 grit and reapply one (1) coat of Epoxy Primer.
6. Apply two to three (2-3) coats of K-36 or K-200 Acrylic Urethane Primer Surfacer or equivalent mixed with K-248 Flexible Hardener or equivalent.
7. After primer surfacer is dry, block sand with 400 to 600 grit sandpaper. Clean with DX-330 Grease and Wax Remover or equivalent.
8. For grey molding: Apply two to three (2-3) coats of Deltron Acrylic Urethane (DAU 35552) grey poly or equivalent mixed with DX-369 Flexible Additive.
For black molding: Apply two to three (2-3) coats of DDL-9862 or equivalent low gloss black paint.
9. Allow to dry 16 hours or force dry tor 40 minutes at 140 degrees F (60 degrees C) prior to molding reinstallation (if required) or returning to service. Refer to the applicable Service Manual Section 2B "Sheet Metal" for molding installation instructions.
