Some 1982 and early 1983 "S" trucks equipped with a four speed manual transmission produced by Isuzu may exhibit gear clash when shifting into second gear.
A change has been incorporated in transmission assemblies produced on July 9,1982 (transmission serial #78228). The new assembly sleeve tooth chamfer shape and key groove has been modified to eliminate the clash condition.
Installation of new 1st-2nd synchronizer assembly, P/N 94115609, along with replacement of 1st-2nd block rings, 94241902 (quantity of two block rings requied per vehicle) will correct this condition.
The Isuzu 77.5mm transmission can be identified by the clutch housing as being an integral part of the case.
Installation procedure in the 1982 "S" series Shop Manual X-8229, Section 7B11 should be followed when installing the synchronizer assembly.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
