Some early production units may exhibit gear clash when the operator attempts to shift from 2-high to 4-high while the vehicle is moving. The gear clash condition most often occurs at speeds in excess of 25 MPH. If an owner reports this condition, the following steps should be taken:
1. Be sure the owner understands that cold weather may affect the speed at which he can shift without difficulty. Review Pages 2-18 of the Owner's Manual with him.
2. Be sure the owner understands that the shift should be made with a firm "crisp" motion.
3. Inspect all linkage for proper adjustment. Adjust as required.
4. If, gear clash is still encountered, then it will be necessary to replace the parts listed below.
Follow the procedure for unit repair of the 207 transfer case as described in the 1983 Light Duty Truck Service Manual X8341 to install these parts.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
