TOWING CAPABILITY INFORMATION MAXIMUM GROSS WEIGHT RATINGS

SUBJECT: TOWING CAPABILITY FOR SYCLONE, TYPHOON, AND SONOMA GT (INFORMATIONAL)

MODELS: 1991-92 SYCLONE, 1992 TYPHOON AND SONOMA GT

Previously, a DCS message dated March 5, 1991 stated that under no circumstances should towing be recommended for the 1991 Syclone. Recent trailer durability and handling tests have shown that the previous DCS message is no longer valid. The tests show the following towing information:

SYCLONE:

------- The Syclone has been approved for a maximum gross combination weight rating of 4800 pounds (2179 kg) with a maximum trailer towing weight of 1100 pounds (500 kg) and maximum cargo weight of 250 pounds (114 kg). When towing a trailer with passengers and cargo, the combined weight cannot exceed the 4800 pounds maximum gross combination weight rating. A hitch (#24559) has been developed by Draw-Tite@ for the 1991 and 1992 Syclone. When towing with the Syclone, use this hitch or an equivalent class rated hitch.

NOTICE: Exceeding the maximum gross combination weight rating of 4800 pounds and/or the maximum trailer towing weight of 1100 pounds will cause serious engine and/or transmission damage.

TYPHOON:

------- THE TYPHOON IS NEITHER DESIGNED NOR INTENDED TO TOW A TRAILER. Trailering with the Typhoon will cause serious engine and/or transmission damage.

SONOMA GT:

The Sonoma GT has been approved for a maximum gross combination weight rating of 6200 pounds (2815 kg) with a maximum trailer towing weight of 2000 pounds (908 kg). A hitch (#41510) has been developed by Draw-Tite@ for the 1992 Sonoma GT. When towing with the Sonoma GT, use this hitch or an equivalent class rated hitch.

NOTE: 'We believe Draw-Tite@ and their equipment to be reliable. There may be additional manufacturers of such equipment. General Motors does not endorse, indicate any preference for, or assume any responsibility for the products or equipment from these firms or for any such items which may be available from other sources. "

To order these hitches, please disregard the phone number that was given in the March 5, 1991 DCS message. Instead, refer to the yellow pages of your local telephone directory under the headings of TRAILER HITCHES or TRAILER PARTS AND EQUIPMENT to find a local dealer of Draw-Tite@ or equivalent class rated trailer hitches.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
