ELECTRIC OUTSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR WIND NOISE

SUBJECT: ELECTRIC OUTSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR WIND NOISE

MODELS: 1991-92 S/T VEHICLES WITH RPO D48

Owners of some 1991-92 S/T vehicles equipped with electric outside rear view mirrors may comment on excessive wind whistle.

This condition may occur if air flows behind the mirror assembly and through the door panel wiring harness access opening.

To correct this condition, it is necessary to install foam behind the mirror assembly.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove the three mirror assembly mounting screws. Hold the mirror assembly away from the door without disconnecting the wiring harness.

2. Install urethane closed cell foam (procured locally) around the electric mirror wiring harness and in the door panel access opening to eliminate any void areas.

3. Reposition the mirror assembly on the door and install the three mounting screws. The screws must be installed in the sequence shown in Figure 1, location A first, then B and C.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
