ROOF LUGGAGE RACK WIND NOISE REPOSITION CROSS RAILS

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1985-90 M/L VANS WITH ROOF RACK (RPO V54)

Some of the above subject vehicles may experience wind noise generated from the roof luggage rack at various road speeds. The wind noise can result from air flow vibrating against the luggage rack cross rails.

To reduce the wind noise, it is necessary to reposition the cross rails as follows: Refer to Figure 1.

1. Position the front cross rail directly over the forward-most set of centre supports.

2. Position the rear cross rail directly over the second set of centre supports.

3. The blunt end of the metal cross rail and the blunt end of the rubber insert should be positioned toward the front of the vehicle.

IMPORTANT: WHEN INSTALLING NEW LUGGAGE RACKS, CROSS RAILS SHOULD BE POSITIONED AS INSTRUCTED IN THIS BULLETIN.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
