The water deflectors on all the doors serve multiple purposes. The deflectors help to prevent the following conditions:

    • Water intrusion
    • Air leaks
    • Dust
    • Noise
    • Vehicle exhaust intrusion

All door water deflectors are perforated in order to assist the technician in accessing the interior of the door for service. In some cases, it will be necessary to peel back on the deflector.

The deflector must be properly resealed if the deflector is separated at a perforation, peeled back, or removed from the door. This prevents the intrusion of exhaust gases. The adhesive already on the door and the deflector from the factory will usually be adequate in order to re-adhere a deflector that has been peeled back or removed. If additional adhesive is required, a small amount of weatherstrip adhesive, such as GM P/N 12345096, or equivalent, may be used. Use a cloth reinforced tape with a strong adhesive in order to secure a deflector separated at a perforation.

If the deflector is too badly damaged to provide proper sealing, replace the deflector.
