A/C Compressor and Condenser Hose Assembly) |
Models: | 1996-99
Chevrolet and GMC M/L Models |
| with Rear A/C System (RPO C69) |
Condition
Some owners may comment on no A/C.
Cause
Loss of A/C refrigerant due to the A/C compressor and condenser hose
assembly rubbing at the left rear area of the engine block, causing a hole.
Correction
A new A/C compressor and condenser hose assembly has been developed
to correct this condition. The new hose allows for a tighter routing. Replace
the A/C compressor and condenser hose assembly on affected vehicles. Use the
following procedure and part number listed below.
- Evacuate and recover the A/C system. Refer to the Refrigerant
Recovery and Recharging procedure in the appropriate Service Manual.
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to the General Information subsection
of the Service Manual for information on lifting and jacking the vehicle.
- To verify that the A/C compressor and
condenser hose assembly is the cause of the condition, inspect the hose at
the left rear engine block for signs of rub through. If no sign of rub through
is present, refer to the Diagnosis section of the appropriate Service Manual.
- Disconnect the A/C compressor and condenser hose assembly from
the auxiliary evaporator line.
- Remove the bolts that retain the clips
on the A/C compressor and condenser hose assembly to the chassis.
- Remove the nut from the stud that retains the A/C compressor and
condenser hose assembly to the bell housing.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the engine cover. Refer to the Engine Cover Replacement
procedure in the appropriate Service Manual.
- Remove the air cleaner. Refer to the Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
procedure in the appropriate Service Manual.
- Remove the grille. Refer to the Grille Replacement procedure in
the appropriate Service Manual.

retains the A/C compressor and condenser hose assembly to the intake manifold.
- Remove the bolt (2) attaching the A/C compressor and condenser
hose assembly to the compressor (5).
- Disconnect the hose assembly from the condenser.
- Disconnect the hose assembly from the accumulator.
- Remove the A/C compressor and condenser hose assembly from the
vehicle.
- Install the A/C compressor and condenser hose assembly into the
vehicle.
- Connect the hose assembly to the accumulator.
- Connect the hose assembly to the condenser.
- Install the bolt (2) attaching the A/C compressor and condenser
hose assembly to the compressor (5).
- Install the nut (3) to the stud that
retains the A/C compressor and condenser hose assembly to the intake manifold.
- Install the grille. Refer to the Grille Replacement procedure
in the appropriate Service Manual.

condenser hose assembly to the bell housing.
- Install the bolts that retain the clips
on the A/C compressor and condenser hose assembly to the chassis.
- Connect the A/C compressor and condenser hose assembly to the
auxiliary evaporator line.
