Wheel Hub Bolt Replacement Automatic Four Wheel Drive
Removal Procedure
Tools Required
J 6627-A Tie Rod Puller
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the tire and the wheel. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires
and Wheels.
Notice: Support the caliper with a piece of wire to prevent damage to the brake
line.
- Remove the brake caliper. Refer to
Brake Caliper Replacement
in Disc Brakes.
Important: Do not hammer on a wheel bolt.
- Remove the hub bolt using the J 6627-A
.
Installation Procedure
- Install the hub bolt to the hub and bearing assembly.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install four washers
and the nut to the bolt.
Tighten
- Tighten the nut. Draw in the bolt.
- Remove the nut and the washers.
- Install the brake caliper. Refer to
Brake Caliper Replacement
in Disc Brakes.
- Install the tire and the wheel. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires
and Wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
Wheel Hub Bolt Replacement Rear Wheel Drive
Removal Procedure
Tools Required
J 9746-02 Wheel Stud
Remover
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the tire and the wheel. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires
and Wheels.
- Remove the hub assembly from the vehicle. Refer to
Front Wheel Hub, Bearing, and Seal Replacement
.
- Remove the wheel hub
bolts using a press.
• | Support the rotor/hub using the J 9746-02
in order to prevent damage to the rotor face. |
• | Do not damage the wheel mounting surface on the rotor/hub flange. |
Installation Procedure
- Support the rotor/hub
with the J 9746-02
in order
to prevent damage to the rotor face.
Install the new, serrated bolt into the hole in the rotor/hub.
- Tap in the bolt lightly with a hammer in order to start the bolt
into the hole.
Make sure the bolt is square with the rotor/hub.
- Use a press in order to fully seat the bolt.
- Install the hub assembly onto the vehicle. Refer to
Shock Absorber Replacement
.
- Install the tire and the wheel. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires
and Wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
